BACK IN THE SWING OF THINGS...

... pun totally inteded! Just got home from watching the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines and I am beat! My dad and I just had to walk around the whole place and I am pretty sure my butt was close to cramping at some point. We did get grandstand seats at the third hole, where we watched everyone from Ernie Els and on, which included Sergio Garcia, Mike Weir, and of course, tomorrow's play off finalists, Rocco Mediate and Tiger! We got to see Tiger the 3rd and 5th. Had we stayed at the first hole, he might have hit us on the head with his ball, because he had shanked it left where we had been standing and watching before we moved on to the 3rd. The 3rd is that pictureseque 3 par that over looks the canyon and beach, so my dad definitely wanted to check it out, and as it was father's day, who was I to argue? We arrived at around 9 and there were already TONS of people there! (Tiger didn't tee off til 1:30) It was pretty cool though because we got to see a lot of the players we always see on t.v.

Anyhow, that pretty much occupied most of the weekend. After we played tennis on Saturday, we drove down to S.D. and spent the night so we could get an early start without having to make too early of a start. Friday night I saw SATC with the salad queens and we all really liked it. I'm so bummed we won't know if there will be another.

Last week I was in actually in NYC and luckily got out before the heat wave. It was the same last year when we went in June. However, I did not miss the heat in Boston. I got a bit roasted actually, as I wasn't expecting heat and sunshine (and I'm pretty sure most Bostonians weren't either) and didn't bring a hat to wear. Since I was in Boston, I was tempted to wear a Lakers shirt that weekend, but as my parents pointed out, I'd probably get my ass kicked, and God knows I don't have any muscles for fighting. My cousin has also mentioned how very over zealous the Bostonians are about their teams - she knows as she moved from NYC and occasionally wears her Yankees hat around.
Unlike in other major cities where you just accept that a lot of people will be there from different places and supporting different teams, Boston appears to expect a homogenous sports society - Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots - nothing else. But then again... I was surprised to find that Boston was not as diverse as one would expect from a big city, so that is probably why. Boston was a nice town, I enjoyed walking around the city and the suburbs, but I think I pretty much saw everything there was to see in two days... and that's with a lot of snack and beverage (and by beverage I mean beer) stops due to the heat. Best thing: no sales tax on the clothes shopping! Woohoo.
